AIRFIELD APPLICATION CALLED IN BY SECRETARY OF STATE!GO-EAST HAVE JUST TELEPHONED TO SAY THAT THE SECRETARY OF STATE HAS DETERMINED TO CALL IN THE RIVENHALL APPLICATION FOR A FULL PUBLIC PLANNING INQUIRY. Well done to everyone who has helped for so long in the campaign - it has paid off. Essex County Council has been stopped from granting consent. There will be a full public inquiry with a host of policy issues being called into question. The paperwork has not yet been issued. Go-East were kind enough to telephone with the good news. | | A120 March update! There has been a major development in the campaign against the A120's HA Proposed Southern Route. In the last article it was stated that the EERA were left with the decision on priority. From their website www.EERA.gov.uk it appears that the body has reduced the priority level of the expansion of the A120. On the EERA is is now recorded as 'Further appraisal' and not committed. There will be more news on this topic in the coming weeks. But at this present moment the funds required for such an ambitious project are not available. Mr. Driberg asked the Minister of National Insurance to which Department questions should be addressed concerning the administration of the Polish camp and hostel at Rivenhall, near Witham, Essex; and if he is satisfied that the food and conditions at this camp, about which there were complaints a few months ago, when responsibility for the camp and its inmates was shared by various Departments, have now been improved substantially. § Mr. Steele This camp was taken over on 7th May as a hostel for Polish civilians under the administration of the National Assistance Board, and questions with regard to it should be addressed to my right hon. Friend. Improvements in the food and general conditions have already been effected. | Indictments! Crime in Kelvedon Read the indictments of Kelvedon residents during Elizabeth the firsts reign! See if you recognise any names from Kelvedon. Gover, John, of Kelvedon, yeoman, indicted for homicide. By an inquisition held at Kelvedon, 31 Oct. 1571, before Thomas Knott, coroner, on the body of Robert Cristmas, the jury John Upcher, Lawrence Ley, William Cowper, Richard Vale, John Sparks, Thomas..... Christopher Wynter, William Haywards, Nicholas Blackborne, John West, John Cockerell- found that on 29 Oct. Gover discovered Cristmas, one of his servants who had ran away, hiding in the house of John Beckwith at Rivenhall. He assaulted Cristmas with a cartwhip, inflicting injuries from which he died. (Verdict unknown) Bennett, William, of Kelvedon, yeoman, and [Sponer?], William, gent indicted for highway robbery. On 20 Jan. 1572 they assaulted William Cawldwell of Mutford, Suff, gent., in the highway at Kelvedon and stole from him a bay horse (£4) and £4 [?] in money. Bennett tried Mar. 1573; not guilty. Sponer is at large. |
