startutti

One star for being clean and the meals being warm!

A very disappointment meal! and part time service!

Tutti's at Freeport left me cold and amazed.

Can anyone tell me what is so difficult about boiling water and opening a tin?

I was treated by my partner to a birthday meal at Tutti's in Braintree, the company was wonderful the restaurant clean.  Well it would be because there were only three tables in use.  And now I know why.  As we entered the establishment someone resembling a cook poked their head out of the kitchen window, I can only presume to check if they had to do any actual work. No fear of that because the meal was so bad even the four year old had to be bribed to eat it.

We started off with a starter at a grand price of £5 + and we were presented with a stredded pitta bread and small pots of olives, humus (with earth like crust which could have been taken in for the eldests science project), a small potion of yoghurt and finally a spicy tomato pot.  Oh joy! My partner at least enjoyed the olives.

Hunger still present we looked forward to our main dish, and when it was presented to us, it looked fine with little frills and garnishes, but still relatively basic.  Hey, we'd been to Italy and their dishes looked basic but tasted amazing.  How I was fooled.

The pasta had no taste and was swimming (I hope) in water, either the plates had not been dried or the tasteless tomatoes came directly from a tin and not drained.  There were green shreds of foliage in the tomatoes (I will not promote it to a sauce) which I hoped was basil, but had no taste absolutely none that I was aware of.  Out of four dishes presented to our table not one had a flavour.  My partners main course was a pasta dish with seafood.  This dish had no sauce and required half a pot of pepper and bowl of cheese just to let the taste buds know that it was food being chewed and not soggy wool.

So, to try and salvage the meal we headed for the dessert.  Three were ordered, three arrived, three were stared at and three were poked.  Now I have a sweet tooth, but still game began, pass the plates around the table to see if anyone liked them.  A chocolate brownie cake which was solid and neat sugar, a fudge cake which obviously had just been taken from its packet and profiteroles which were not dipped or covered in chocolate but a light brown mushy substance which may have been cream I am not sure.  The children gave up and myself and my partner were left to eat as much as we could, after all we had paid for it.

The service consisted of two individuals one at the rear of the establishment on a laptop and another hanging around the bar looking moody.  New customers entered and left without being seated, served or even acknowledged.

Thats my review of Tutti's Braintree.
